PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A man found shot early Friday morning at a Wawa on Frederick Boulevard was struck by bullets on Interstate 264, police say.

Virginia State Police say the shooting happened around 12:30 a.m. on eastbound I-264 at Portsmouth Boulevard. The investigation revealed two men drove onto the interstate when they encountered another vehicle. Someone in the other vehicle started firing and struck a male passenger multiple times. The shooter fled. The driver of the other vehicle, who was unharmed, went to the Wawa and called police.

Police say the victim was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

No other details have been released, but police say this appears to be an isolated incident and there’s no threat to the community.
