Police: Man arrested after Portsmouth Blvd. shooting was wanted for stabbing

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A man arrested after a shooting Friday night on Portsmouth Boulevard was also wanted for a stabbing earlier this month, police say.

Police say the shooting happened around 4:45 p.m. in the 3900 block of Long Point Road. That’s near Twin Pines Road.

A 33-year-old man was found with a life-threatening gunshot wound and taken to the hospital. Police said he was in “stable” condition as of Monday, but didn’t elaborate.

The suspect, 34-year-old Eddie F. Hunter Jr., was identified after he walked into Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with a non life-threatening gunshot wound, police said.

He was charged with aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a violent felon.

Police didn’t share additional details about what led up to the shooting, but say Hunter was wanted for a stabbing on March 5 on Dale Drive. He’s charged with shoot, cut, or stab in commission of a felony and aggravated malicious wounding in connection to that incident.
