PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Much of the Hampton Roads region is under a heat advisory until 8 p.m., with heat index values expected to climb as high as 107 Wednesday afternoon.
Portsmouth
The City of Portsmouth has opened several Cooling Stations due to the excessive heat forecasted for the area.
Cooling Station locations and hours can be found below:
- Portsmouth City Hall Lobby — 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Portsmouth Main Library — 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Cradock Library — 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Churchland Library — 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Manor Library — 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Behavioral Healthcare Services Building — 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Social Services/Human Services Building — 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Senior Station — 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Water will be provided at the stations. Pets, excluding service animals, are not permitted to enter any of the Cooling Stations.
Virginia Beach
The City of Virginia Beach is opening all public libraries to give residents the opportunity to cool down from the heat during regular business hours. The locations can be found below:
