PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia State Police issued a critically missing adult alert late Thursday on behalf of Portsmouth Police for 19-year-old Daquan Rountree, was last known to be at the 900 Block of 5th Street around 12:30 a.m. on Dec. 11.
Portsmouth Police said Friday they are actively collaborating with Rountree’s family and “diligently pursuing leads and addressing inquiries from our community.”
Rountree is described as 5-foot-4 to 5-foot-5 and 130 to 135 pounds, with unknown clothing.
Anyone with information on Rountree’s location is asked to call Portsmouth Police at 757-393-5300 or the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
“We want to assure everyone that we are thoroughly investigating every lead and urge anyone with information regarding Mr. Rountree to immediately reach out to us,” Portsmouth Police said.
Family members and police are concerned about the man’s well-being and want information on his whereabouts due to a possible mental episode.
A Marcus Alert has not been issued, as the program is not yet available in Portsmouth. Portsmouth Police noted that the city “aims to fully implement this response plan by June 2024, which is ahead of the state’s required implementation date of 2026.”
It also differs from other alerts such as the Amber, Ashanti or Silver Alerts, Portsmouth Police said. While those trigger statewide notifications, the Marcus Alert does not.
It was at Portsmouth Police’s request that an Ashanti Alert — or critically missing adult alert — was issued by the Virginia State Police Thursday night for Rountree.
Criteria for an Ashanti Alert focuses on three areas: people 17 and up, missing adults with special needs or circumstances and missing adults who are endangered or have been involuntarily abducted or kidnapped.
