Pungo Ferry Bridge closes briefly after tugboat hit

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Pungo Ferry Road at the Pungo Ferry Bridge closed briefly on Friday after it was hit by a tugboat.

No injuries or damage to the boat were reported, according to the Virginia Beach Fire Department. The captain self-reported to the Coast Guard and the bridge was shut down to check for structural integrity.

City engineers deemed there was no structural damage and the bridge was cleared to reopen.

Traffic was detoured via Blackwater Road, North Landing, Indian River Road, West Neck Road and over to Princess Anne Road, the city said.
