NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Rep. Bobby Scott recently visited the Hampton Senior Center to celebrate the 89th anniversary of President Franklin D. Roosevelt signing the Social Security Act into law.

Scott co-sponsored the Social Security 2100 Act, which would strengthen Social Security by making sure the wealthy pay their fair share and it would improve benefits for recipients.

“People across the country rely on the Social Security benefits they have earned,” said Congressman Scott. “I had a good conversation with seniors today about how Social Security has enabled them to pay their bills and retire with dignity. In light of Project 2025 and ongoing efforts by Republicans to weaken or cut Social Security, I will remain steadfast in my support of this vital program.”

Over 140,000 people living in Virginia’s Third Congressional District receive social security.
