NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Hurricane Helene left a path of destruction across the southeast and the Salvation Army Hampton Roads Area Command has deployed its disaster response team to the hardest-hit areas.

A spokesperson said the organization is working closely with local emergency management agencies to assess needs and provide immediate relief, including:

  • Food and Water Distribution: Mobile feeding units are serving hot meals and distributing bottled water to individuals and families affected by the hurricane.
  • Emotional and Spiritual Care: Trained counselors are available to offer emotional and spiritual support to those struggling with the aftermath of the storm.

“We are here to serve and support during this time of need,” said Major Chris Flanagan, Area Commander of the Salvation Army Hampton Roads. “Our mission is to provide hope and assistance to those affected by Hurricane Helene, ensuring that no one faces this disaster alone.”
