SMITHFIELD, Va. (WAVY) — The search for two Smithfield grand larceny suspects led to two police pursuits and ultimately two arrests.

On March 14, Smithfield Police were notified that around $1,300 worth of alcohol was stolen from the ABC store on South Church Street.

Officers quickly spotted the suspect vehicle and a pursuit ensued, that lasted 50 minutes. During the pursuit, the suspect’s vehicle collided with an a bystander’s car at the intersection of Benns Church and South Church Street, causing injuries to the occupants.

The pursuit concluded at the Isle of Wight/Surry line, where the woman driver, Tia Browne, was apprehended, police said. A male suspect fled into the nearby woods.

The male suspect wasn’t caught until the next day when the suspect stole a vehicle on March 15. The suspect, identified as Christopher Cheek, stole a vehicle and led police on a pursuit from Smithfield to Suffolk. That pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns. The pursuit later continued after the Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Deputies located the vehicle and initiated a pursuit which ended in the Hardee’s parking lot.

Creek was taken into custody.

Browne faces charges including: grand larceny, conspiracy to commit felony, felony evade and elude, and felony hit and run. Cheek has been charged with grand larceny, conspiracy to commit felony, obstruction of justice, felony evade and elude, with additional charges pending confirmation.
