SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Suffolk firefighters say two dogs died in house fire Wednesday morning.

Fire department spokesperson Katie Russell says the fire happened in the 5800 block of Greenwood Road, south of Holland. Firefighters were dispatched at 10:03 a.m. and the fire was marked under control at 10:28 a.m.

Visible flames were coming from the back of the house when crews arrived, and the fire extended up to the attic. Firefighters forced entry and didn’t find any human occupants at the home, but said two dogs did not survive.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office.
