SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Three people were injured in a single-vehicle crash on Route 58 in Suffolk Thursday afternoon, Suffolk Fire & Rescue said.
Multiple crews responded to the crash on eastbound Route 58 (Portsmouth Boulevard) before the truck scales around 2:28 p.m.
When they arrived, they found a work truck that had crashed into the trees.
Three people were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
WAVY has reported on several serious crashes along Route 58 in the past week.
On Friday, May 10, a man was killed in a crash along U.S. 58 near the Hampton Roads Executive Airport in Chesapeake. An investigation revealed a tractor-trailer was traveling west and was attempting to make a U-turn, when another vehicle struck the tractor-trailer. That driver died from his injuries.
The very next day, police confirmed another fatal crash on Route 58, this time in Suffolk. A 60-year-old man died in a single-vehicle crash just east of the weigh station.
All this week, Virginia State Police increased patrols on Route 58 as part of a planned safety initiative. The “Southern Virginia US 58 Safety Initiative” was conducted Monday-Friday along 116 miles of U.S. Route 58 from Emporia to Danville. The goal is to enhance safety of those traveling and conduct traffic safety checks.
