SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Police are investigating shootings Friday night that left two men dead and three people wounded near the downtown area.
Police say they were called to an area near 2nd Avenue at 9:22 p.m. and found two men dead and three people — a man, a woman and a girl — wounded from gunfire.
In a press release, police have identified the victims as 24-year-old Davante Wilson who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and 22-year-old Aaron Porter who died from a single gunshot wound.
Among those injured were a 26-year-old woman who suffered multiple gunshot wounds to her lower extremities, a 19-year-old man, and a 2-year-old toddler who sustained a gunshot wound to her upper and lower extremities.
All three injured are still in the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Reports say Davante Wilson’s body was located in the 200 block of North Broad Street where the incident initially took place and officers found Aaron porter’s body in the 700 block of First Avenue.
According to reports, the 26-year-old woman, Davante Wilson, and the toddler were sitting in a parked car in the 200 block of North Broad Street when Aaron Porter approached the vehicle.
The 19-year-old victim was walking in the area of the Second Avenue and Bute Street with a friend when they heard the gunshots and ran before he was shot.
The incident covered two city blocks and a total of 20 spent shell casing were found in the area.
Officers have now opened multiple roadways downtown, including Bute Street, North Broad Street, 1st Avenue and 2nd Avenue.
