SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A man has been arrested following a police pursuit that resulted in a crash involving a police vehicle in Suffolk.

According to Chesapeake police, officers were attempting to arrest a burglary suspect on 1:36 p.m. in the 4000 block of Hawksley Dr. when he got into his vehicle and fled.

The suspect, identified as 44-year-old Matthew Hanel, fled into Suffolk and the pursuit ended in the 6400 block of Townpoint Rd. Photos from a viewer showed that a police vehicle was also struck during the pursuit. Police say no injuries were reported.

Hanel was arrested and faces charges of a dwelling house with intent to commit a larceny, assault & battery, stealing less than $200 not from a person, resistance of an officer of the court, and attempted dwelling house with intent to commit larceny, assault & battery.

Police say they are also investigating if Hanel has ties to other crimes in Chesapeake
