SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Suffolk Fire & Rescue and Suffolk Police Department are wanting to notify the public to a training taking place on Thursday in order to avoid confusion.

The first responders are participating in a multi-agency active shooting training exercise. This training is closed to the public, but individuals may see activity on the campus Lockeed Martin Innovation Center located in the 8000 block of Harbour View Bvd. The exercise goes from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and will focus on emergency response to an active shooter incident on the campus and is being staged by SFR and SPD in collaboration with local emergency responders.

“It will involve a simulation of the law enforcement and first responder response plan for an active shooter and will ensure a coordinated, timely, and effective response and recovery in the event of a major incident,” a release states.

Significant law enforcement and fire department officials will be present during the exercise.
