SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A Suffolk nurse who said she never thought she would win a big prize has done just that.
Eartha Ivey bought a ticket at the Dollar Delites at 6550 Hampton Roads Parkway because she heard the store had sold some big winners in the past.
She said, “I called my daughter and said, ‘I think I won $4 million.”
However, Ivey was wrong; she had actually won the $7 million top prize.
Virginia Lottery officials say the odds for winning the top prize for the “100X The Money” ticket are 1 in 2,611,200.
Ivey had to choose between taking the full $7 million over 30 years or a one-time cash option of $4.2 million before taxes. She chose the cash option.
Dollar Delites will receive a $10,000 bonus from Virginia Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
Ivey said she intends to to take care of her family with the winnings.
