SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The Suffolk Police Department (SPD) is inviting the public to participate in its annual virtual assessment.
Each year, the department is assessed by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, lnc. (CALEA) as part of a re-accreditation program.
The program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services.
SPD must comply with 183 standards in order to maintain accredited status.
Community members are invited to offer comments to CALEA and their assessors regarding the department.
CALEA has established an online portal at suffolkpd.com to receive citizen comments. Citizens can also provide input at cimrs2.calea.org.
Additionally, written comments can be emailed to calea@celea.orq or mailed to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, lnc., 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 160, Gainesville, Va. 20155.
