SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Major Jesse Epperson has been tapped to become the next Deputy Chief with the Suffolk Police Department.
Epperson joined the department in 2006 after he completed his Basic Law Enforcement Training at Hampton Roads Criminal Justice Training Academy.
Since that time, he has served the department in a number of capacities including, uniform patrol, investigator and sergeant with the Neighborhood Enforcement Team, Internal Affairs sergeant, Special Investigations Section lieutenant, captain of Operations – Precinct 1, and captain of Administration.
Epperson also is the commander of the Underwater Search and Recovery Team and Honor Guard.
He has received two supervisor of the year awards, departmental community service awards, several departmental commendations and noteworthy awards.
The lifelong Suffolk resident, holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Troy University and a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice from Old Dominion University.
Epperson will officially step into his new role on Wednesday, Aug.7.
