NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A 17-year-old has been arrested in connection to a 2022 homicide case in Newport News.
The Newport News Police Department said the teen was taken into custody on Tuesday and charged with second-degree murder and several weapons offenses.
The shooting back on October 14, 2022 on Walden Pond Court left 15-year-old Shayne Capehart dead. Capehart’s mother said she heard the shots.
Police said they are not sharing the suspect’s name because he is a juvenile, but Police Chief Steve Drew shared this statement:
“I want to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who played a role in solving this case. Through your tireless work, we were able to bring some closure to a family who continues to suffer the loss of their young son.”
