Three apartment communities in Hampton Roads benefit from loans for low-income households

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A housing loan announced by Gov. Glenn Youngkin benefits at least three local apartment communities in Hampton Roads.

Twenty-two million dollars were announced for the Affordable and Special Needs Housing loans given to 14 projects in the Commonwealth. These projects are meant to help low-income households and preserve almost 880 units for these individuals.

Isle of Wight, Norfolk and Portsmouth each have an apartment complex benefiting from this loan.

The Jersey Park Apartments in Isle of Wight is expected to receive around $2 million, and have around 80 units available for low income residents, according to the Hud Housing Network.

New affordable housing at Bains Pointe is expected to come to Portsmouth. The apartments are named after Eliza Bains who helped slaves gain freedom using the Underground Railroad in Portsmouth, according to Woda Cooper Companies.

Norfolk’s Gosnold II Apartments are also opening their doors and accepting applications for single room apartments.
