VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A woman was charged with felony child neglect in Virginia Beach after police said she failed to secure a firearm later used in a deadly shooting of a teenager.
38-year-old Caromekia Parker was arrested and charged on July 14 with felony child neglect after her gun was found by teenagers and mishandled, resulting in the death of a 14-year-old, police said.
On March 2, around 6:15 p.m., Virginia Beach police arrived in the 4900 block of Almandine Avenue to find a 14-year-old boy with a fatal gunshot wound. The boy died at the scene and a 16-year-old boy was charged with involuntary manslaughter, juvenile possession of a firearm and shooting inside an occupied dwelling.
A 15-year-old boy was charged with obstructing justice.
In March, Virginia Beach Police Chief Paul Neudigate told WAVY it happened after the teens found an unsecured gun in the residence.
