PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Anti-war group Veterans for Peace (VFP) has established a new chapter in Hampton Roads.

The group states it has over 100 chapters across the globe comprised of military veterans and allies who are focused on a culture of peace.

According to the organization’s website, their mission is to:

  • To increase public awareness of the causes and costs of war
  • To restrain our governments from intervening, overtly and covertly, in the internal affairs of other nations
  • To resist racism and repression in our home communities
  • To oppose the militarization of law enforcement
  • To end the arms race and to reduce and eventually eliminate nuclear weapons
  • To seek justice for veterans and victims of war
  • To abolish war as an instrument of national policy

National Director of Veterans for Peace, Mike Ferner will visit Hampton Roads later this month to introduce the new chapter during three events.
