VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Saturday marked the 10th annual Hands Across the Sand event.
People met at different areas across Hampton Roads, including right at the Oceanfront, to hold hands in a line and show their opposition to offshore drilling.
Jim Deppe, who is with the Surfrider Foundation says, Hands Across the Sand is an international effort that started after the BP oil spill.
There were more than 100 people who came out to stand against offshore drilling at the beach on Saturday.
They were not only holding hands, but also protest signs.
“Wer’e about oceans, beaches and waves and offshore drilling is bad for all of that,” said Deppe.
After the demonstration, there was a beach cleanup held.
