9 guns seized on school grounds after tips about criminal activity ahead of VB high school football game

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A report of possible criminal activity at a Friday night high school football game in Virginia Beach in September 2021 led police to find and seize numerous illegal weapons on school grounds.

Virginia Beach police seized nine illegally possessed weapons on school property at Salem High School and arrested four adults, a department captain wrote on Twitter Monday.

Police Chief Paul Neudigate tweeted Monday saying the “tremendous work” was done by the Operations & Investigations Division.

Neudigate said the guns were seized in the parking lot. Officers found the firearms in plain sight in three separate vehicles that were parked on school property, which led to the arrest of four individuals:

10 On Your Side is working to learn the status of those four individuals. Washington, Wright and Bryant were all granted bond.

Police say that none of the four individuals were originally identified in the treat report.

Separately, on Friday night, a fight also broke out at a Norfolk football game between Lake Taylor and Norview high schools.

The stadium was cleared due to unruly behavior. No arrests were made, dispatchers said. The game went on without spectators. Lake Taylor won 28-26.

Days later, at Heritage High School in Newport News, court documents show two 17-year-old students were shot after an altercation with a 15-year-old. The incident sparked region-wide concern and an uptick in threats that police deemed not to be credible.

Virginia Beach City Public Schools shared this in an email with 10 On Your Side.

In addition to the VBCPS email, Virginia Beach Police tweeted their own statement about recent threats against area schools.
