VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Police have arrested a woman suspected of running over another woman that was jogging along a road two weeks ago and fleeing the scene.
Virginia Beach police say they’ve taken 29-year-old Alexis Rummel into custody and charged her with felony hit-and-run in relation to the incident.
On Sept. 23 around 11 a.m., Karen Stout says she was running in the area of Carolina Avenue near Mediterranean Avenue when she suddenly blacked out after being hit by an SUV.
The driver of the SUV had fled the scene. A passerby spotted Stout lying on the ground and stopped to help, according to police.
Stout was taken to a local hospital and says she was left with two broken ankles, two broken ribs, a cracked back and many other injuries.
Police released pictures of the suspected vehicle caught on camera, asking the public for assistance to find the suspect. They say their investigation efforts led to the identification of the suspect and the arrest.
