VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – The mayoral race in Virginia Beach continues to grow, with four people now running to take the place of incumbent mayor Bobby Dyer.
Former Virginia Delegate Cheryl Turpin is the latest to file to run for Mayor of Virginia Beach. Turpin will run alongside former Councilmember John Moss and current councilmembers Sabrina Wooten and Chris Taylor.
Turpin plans to focus on local business, expanding resources for education and public policy initiatives that “embrace and reflect the diversity of Virginia Beach communities.”
“The classrooms, communities, and local companies that make Virginia Beach strong are often ignored for the sake of what politicians call the big picture,” Turpin said. “As a mother and an educator who knows the value of public policy, I don’t consider those the big picture, but the whole picture.”
Turpin worked as a science teacher for over 25 years before representing the 85th district from 2018 to 2020.
The general election will occur on Nov. 5, 2024.
