VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – A local Chick-fil-A employee got a big surprise Tuesday.

Peyton Edwards has worked for Chick-fil-a for the past eight years. She’s worked her way up from Team Member, to Leader, to Director at her local store on First Colonial Rd. in Virginia Beach.

Meanwhile, Peyton is also a full-time student at Regent University.

Chick-fil-a CEO Andrew Cathy presented Peyton with a $25,000 scholarship Tuesday morning. It’s something she told WAVY she never expected.

“And I walked out and saw all the cameras and I was like ‘ok, I’m just gonna get interviewed for maybe a commercial’, and then I was given a $25,000 check for my schooling!”

A marching band was also there for the celebration.

The company hands out 14 “True Inspiration Scholarships” across the country. Peyton’s scholarship marks the 100th $25,000 scholarship awarded to a Chick-fil-A Team Member.
