VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Virginia Beach officials say nine additional sites in Virginia Beach City Public Schools were found with elevated levels of lead.
The elevated levels of lead were initially misidentified at nine schools as “non-drinking and food prep sources.” Updated information from the school division shows those sources were actually used for consumable water.
In a memorandum sent to the Virginia Beach City Public Schools School Board, Chief Operations Officer Jack Freeman listed the additional sites found with elevated levels of lead.
The schools identified as having additional sources of elevated lead levels in drinking or food prep sources include: Bayside High, Lynnhaven Middle, Lynnhaven Elementary, Green Run Elementary, North Landing Elementary, Bayside Middle, and Pembroke Elementary.
“They have since been secured,” the memorandum states, as officials say continued corrections and retesting is being done in the city.
Officials assured residents of the Virginia Beach City Public Schools expanded partnership with the water quality management services for the city.
Reports came out early November saying 27 schools in the city were reported to have high levels of lead in drinking and food prep sources after a recent water testing in the area.
