VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A Norfolk man will serve 28 years in prison for stabbing another man to death.
Kavitt Javon Conway, 31, pled guilty to first-degree murder Tuesday in a Virginia Beach courtroom.
On April 25, 2023, Conway confronted Anthony Garcia a woman he had been in a tumultuous four-year relationship with at a 7-Eleven.
According to the Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney Office, Conway approached the vehicle and began banging on the window demanding the woman to get out. He then reached into the sunroof and pulled Garcia by the hair.
When Garcia and the woman drove away, Conway pursued them onto the interstate and rammed their vehicle several times. The woman pleaded with Conway to stop because her kids were in the car, but he persisted.
Garcia drove to his aunt and uncle’s house, about 20 minutes away. When Garcia arrived at their home, he ran to the front door to get help. Conway jumped out of his vehicle and tackled Garcia.
After hearing the commotion, Garcia’s aunt and uncle grabbed a gun and ran outside. Conway jumped off of Garcia and left the scene after Garcia’s uncle threatened to shoot him.
Conway stabbed Garcia eight times and killed him before police and EMS arrived.
Police found Conway at a hotel in Henrico a few days later.
Circuit Court Judge James C. Lewis sentenced Conway to fifty years in prison with 22 years suspended, leaving 28 years to serve.
