VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Some people in the Town Center area of Virginia Beach were in for a surprise after they were hit hard with pellets shot by a group of juveniles with an airsoft gun.

Virginia Beach police told us they have two reports of people shot with the pellets around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A man who works at Town Center, one of the city’s busier areas, had just gone to Panera Bread for lunch and was crossing Virginia Beach Boulevard when he was shot four times.

“Hit me three in the ribcage and one there on my not-so-funny bone,” the man told 10 On Your Side. He asked that we not use his name.

Hours after the incident the marks from the tiny green pellets remain.

“The lady next to me that was walking with me said they’ve just shot you with something,” he said.

He told us he initially thought he had been shot with bullets and assumed the firearm had a silencer. He watched as a black sedan with the windows rolled down turned right off of Central Park Avenue onto Virginia Beach Boulevard. The driver of the sedan had an air soft gun pointed out the window.

“By the time I could get out my camera to see if I could find a license plate, it was already gone,” he said.

He told 10 On Your Side he watched as the pellets skipped across the street. He’s glad no one was hurt.

“Nothing like this has happened in my 20 years of working here,” he said.

The incident happened outside the entrance of P.F. Chang’s. Neither P.F. Chang’s nor The Cheesecake Factory caught the suspects on video.

“I was talking to a friend of mine who went to have lunch over at Keegan’s,” he said, “and she was talking with the manager there and said they’ve been picking off people from Princess Anne High School too. Must’ve been the same people because it was an airsoft rifle too.”

Reports to police said the juveniles were riding around in a vehicle near Town Center. Police searched the area, but couldn’t locate the suspects.
