VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Saturday was the third annual Harygul’s Halloween “Give Blood Get Blood” event at Collins Square in Virginia Beach. They partnered with the American Redcross and Hunt Club Farm.
The blood drive happened at Harygul’s Halloween Planet located at 4001 Virginia Beach Blvd.
D. Nachnani, president of Harygul’s Halloween, says people were able to register online beforehand and sign up for a slot to give blood. After they donated blood, they were also given some fake Halloween blood. Nachnani talked about partnering with the Red Cross and importance of saving lives.
“Tiffany from the American Red Cross stated to us that there’s a blood shortage due to the pandemic, and due to the inability for their blood mobiles to follow CDC guidelines because you can’t get into close quarters and keep 6 feet,” said D. Nachnani.
With the COVID-19 pandemic, officials say the blood drives and donations have become a challenge.
The event went on from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those who gave blood were also able to get tested to see if they had the COVID 19 antibody at the same time.
The Face-Off Make-Up Artist Competition will be at Lynnhaven Mall, outside near Barnes&Noble, at 701 Lynnhaven Pkwy.
