VIRGINIA BEACH (WAVY) — Seton Youth Shelters marked an exciting milestone on Wednesday.
The nonprofit closed on the sale on its new home after buying the former Saint Luke’s Methodist Church property off Stoneshore Road in Virginia Beach. They got help to purchase the location via a “major benefactor” after facing financial difficulties due to a pandemic.
It will be home to a boys and girls shelter, as well as an administrative and education center.
The organization helps trafficked children and runaways with a 24-hour emergency shelter.
They have until Aug. 31 of this year to repair/renovate the church building that sits on the property to make it suitable for the boys they shelter. The lease at the current property ends Aug. 31.
They will house the boys in the existing church building while they build the new boys’ shelter, a new girls’ shelter and an administration building.
Officials say they hope to have construction complete within three to five years.
