VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — An 8-year-old Virginia Beach boy who was shot in the head while in his home is out of the intensive care unit.

Landyn Davis, who was playing video games on his dad’s computer at their Peele Court home when a stray bullet struck him in the head, is still at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters, but he was upgraded and moved out of the ICU over the weekend. That’s after Landyn had previously been in a medically-induced coma.

His parents, Emily Rigsby and Steven Davis, have been by his side every day throughout his recovery.

“They weren’t really sure the extent of the damage,” Rigsby said. “They didn’t know if he’d ever really be able to do anything again.”

Three people were arrested in connection to the incident last week.

The road to recovery is long, and the community has helped out a lot with fundraisers.

Another fundraiser is being held March 23 at the 24th Street Park in Virginia Beach.

Landyn’s Ride will include a motorcycle cruise, with reserved parking on Atlantic Avenue, along with family-friendly activities, food, candy, entertainment, a silent auction and raffle prizes. The fundraiser goes from noon until 10 p.m.

While his mom said they are asking for prayers, and not money,

“He’s a fighter,” Davis said. “I can tell you he’s tired of the hospital.”
