VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Core 22 Design Build, LLC, a Virginia contractor, issued a statement Monday morning regarding the recent fires at Pembroke Square.
Both of the incidents, one of which left a man who was addressing electrical issues inside of the building with several burn injuries, took place in Pembroke Square.
In the release, Core 22 Design Build said the fires were caused by the “demolition of the old interior of what was Pembroke Mall.” According to the statement, contractors have been on-site for the past few months in order to prepare utilities and structures.
Core 22 Design Build’s statement can be read in part below:
Core 22 Design Build, LLC, emphasizes that Bahama Breeze Island Grille was not at fault for either of these fires. These fires and injuries were solely caused by demolition and preparations for the redevelopment. Safety procedures and best practices are in place, but demolition is a complicated process with many unknowns. Bahama Breeze Island Grille is open, and measures have been taken to assure safety for staff and customers.
