VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin made a stop at STIHL Inc. in Virginia Beach Tuesday to talk about Virginia’s workforce as part of the ‘Virginia Has Jobs’ tour.
Youngkin’s administration recently announced the Virginia Has Jobs initiative to help connect job seekers with opportunities. He promoted this new initiative on the heels of federal workforce layoffs.
“As the Trump administration is working through this idea of bringing efficiencies, they are working through the big workforces and where the cuts need to be made,” Youngkin said. “And the bottom line is that I do expect that there will be Virginians who lose their jobs.”
Youngkin announced there are more than 250,000 job opportunities available across the Commonwealth, with more than 58,000 available in Hampton Roads.
“We’re at a time where we are seeing job dislocation with some of our federal workers here in the Commonwealth and we have a lot,” Youngkin said, “and I want to make sure that the opportunity of Virginia is readily available to them, and they understand that we’re here to support them.”
There will be a virtual job fair for Hampton Roads hosted by Virginia Has Jobs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 25.
