TASLEY, Va. (WAVY) — A two-vehicle crash involving a tractor trailer and a pick-up truck in Accomack County Thursday evening has left one person dead, Virginia State Police said.

State Police said the crash happened around 7:21 p.m. on Route 13/Lankford Highway at the intersection with Daugherty Road and involved a pick-up truck and a tractor trailer.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the driver of a 2010 Nissan Frontier pick-up truck, Eduardo Marvin Simon-Gabriel, 41, of Accomack County, failed to yield the right of way as he was attempting to cross through the intersection of Route 13 and Daugherty Road, State Police said.

Simon-Gabriel’s pick-up crossed into the path of a 2002 Freightliner tractor-trailer, and was struck on the passenger side of the vehicle, State Police said, with the impact causing both the pick-up truck and the tractor-trailer to go off the road.

Simon-Gabriel, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was partially ejected from his pick-up truck, according to State Police, and he died at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

The family of Simon-Gabriel has been notified.
