WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) — A groundbreaking ceremony will be held for the Regional Sports Center in Williamsburg on Friday, Aug. 2.

The ceremony will feature remarks from Williamsburg Mayor Douglas Pons, James City
County Board of Supervisors Chair Ruth Larson, York County Board of Supervisors Vice
Chair Sheila Noll, and Colonial Williamsburg President & CEO Cliff Fleet, in addition to
other special guests.

James City County, York County and the City of Williamsburg partnered with the Historic Triangle Recreational Facilities Authority (HTRFA) to build the 200,000-square-foot-facility. HTRFA says the center is expected to open in 2026.

The event gets underway at 10 a.m. at the sports center construction site.
