NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Three people were injured in a shooting on Corprew Avenue Wednesday evening, including a 43-year-old Chesapeake woman who was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.
Norfolk Police received a report on the shooting in the 2700 block of Corprew Avenue around 7:45 p.m., which is about a block from Norfolk State University.
The woman, identified as Katrina S. Wade, was transported to a local hospital for treatment, where she eventually succumbed to her injuries and died.
Two men, ages 24 and 43, also suffered non life-threatening injuries in the shooting, police said.
Police Chief Mark Talbot was at the scene and said they’re working to find out what happened.
“We believe that the people involved know each other,” Talbot said. “We’re out here collecting evidence so we can find out exactly who is involved. If their are residents nearby or anybody else who knows more about what may have happened out here, we would like to speak to them.”
While the investigation remains ongoing, Councilman John “JP” Paige who represents the area on City Council is trying to comfort those affected.
“In the city of Norfolk, Citizens deserve to be safe in our city, and we can’t continuously do what we’ve done, to address the problem that’s growing,” Paige said. “And the only way to do that is for us to begin to engage with those that practice the violent behaviors. They are citizens too.”
