YPSO: Woman forcibly taken from Richmond to York County, shot to death

YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) – A 25-year-old woman has died after being forcibly taken from Richmond early Saturday morning and shot to death, the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office said.

York-Poquoson Sheriff Ron Montgomery said in a video release that a jogger on Old Williamsburg Road in the area between Riverwalk townhouses and the Colonial Parkway entrance saw a body laying on the side of the road around 6:30 a.m. and called 911.

Deputies arrived at the scene and found the body of a Black woman with multiple gunshot wounds and contacted the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety. Personnel pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

The York County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as 25-year-old Tyosha Tanique Mitchell.

Deputies say the vehicle that is suspected to be involved in the case is a 2012-2016 dark-colored Hyundai Sonata.

They are also asking anyone who was in the area of the 2700 block of Bethel St from 12:30 a.m. to 5 a.m., or Old Williamsburg Rd. between 3 and 5 a.m. to check their home cameras to look to a vehicle matching the description.

Montgomery said they do not believe there is an immediate threat to the community, and that they would provide further information as it became available. He said there may be a potential ear witness to the shooting, saying a woman came forward and told them she heard a gunshot in that area around 3:45 a.m.

Old Williamsburg Road at Daniel’s Drive was to stay closed indefinitely while the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office works what they said was a crime scene.

It said if anyone saw or heard anything in the area, let the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office know by calling 911, its tip line at 757-890-4999, the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP or the P3Tips app.
