YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — In a split second, a family was forever changed.
Tammy Parsons, 53, was killed while driving Sunday when the tire came loose off a car traveling in the opposite direction hit her car.
Parsons was driving on I-64 Eastbound at mile marker 241 near the Camp Perry exit. Her fiancé, two children and two grandchildren were with her in the car, but weren’t hurt.
Friends tell 10 On Your Side Parsons was a hospice worker who also was the “team mom” for the Williamsburg Hornets Youth Cheerleading Team.
“She was so active. She was there every practice. If it was a hot day, she would go and get ice cream for the kids,” said Kathleen Jones, who coached with Parsons.
“I think everyone’s pretty much completely shocked,” said Jones.
“You never expect this obviously to happen. We had a game on Saturday for her son, and a lot of us saw her at that game. It’s like, ‘We were just with you.'”
Police say the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending, though alcohol and speed are not considered factors.
