SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A man was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries following an accident involving a flatbed truck that was hauling bricks and a pick-up truck with a trailer on Thursday.

Suffolk officials say the accident happened around 1 p.m. at the Wilroy Road exit of Route 58 eastbound, near the Nansemond River Bridge.

The trailer became detached from the pick-up and three tow trucks were needed to help clear the scene, officials say.

The eastbound lanes were closed immediately following the accident, but, as of 3:30 p.m., there is one lane open. Officials say traffic in the area could be affected for at least another hour to continue clearing the scene.
