WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) — A man is facing drug charges after police say he was caught speeding in a Williamsburg neighborhood.

Williamsburg police said the incident happened Tuesday around 9:15 p.m. Officers were called to Mimosa Drive for a complaint that a large silver-colored, older model vehicle was speeding in the area.

Police said an officer found the vehicle, and saw the driver accelerate out of the neighborhood faster than the posted speed limit.

The officer pulled the vehicle over at South Henry Street near Hunting Cove, and found that the driver — 36-year-old Michael Dwayne Palmer — had an outstanding warrant.

Palmer ran when the officer tried to arrest him, leading to a foot chase before he surrendered.

The officer found a baggie of cocaine while search the area of the chase. Another baggie of cocaine and two 1-pound bags of marijuana were found in a search of Palmer’s car.

Police said Palmer was charged with felony distribution of cocaine, a felony distribution of marijuana and a misdemeanor resisting arrest.
