NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Court records reveal the man suspected of shooting into a house and leading police on a two-city pursuit is 22-year-old Anthony Hall.

“He really wanted us dead, I thank God they caught him,” said Veirceia Williams.

Williams was in the middle of cooking dinner on September 2 when the sound of gunshots filled her home on Elm Avenue.

She ran to make sure her son was OK and just as she thought they were safe, another round came through her windows.

“It was so close I thought they were going to come into the house, like who is this that’s really trying to hurt us? You know, they’re trying to kill us,” she said.

They were able to dodge the bullets by lying flat on the ground then immediately called police.

“I came out the house and the officer, he was in pursuit,” Williams explained.

The suspected shooter they were chasing turned out to be Hall, a name familiar to Williams, because he previously dated her teen daughter.

“This is all, because my daughter said she didn’t want to be with him anymore. She didn’t let us know that previously when we weren’t home. They were going back and forth, and he was threatening to shoot up the house,” she explained.

Police located the suspect vehicle near Parkview Avenue and Spratley Street,

Hall refused to pull over and attempted to escape from police. The chase continued through the Downtown Tunnel to Norfolk, then onto Military Highway.

At this point, Norfolk police and Virginia State Police got involved.

Police say the chase continued through Norfolk before getting back on I-264 and going back through the tunnel.

The chase ended when the vehicle crashed in the westbound lanes of I-264 near Greenwood Drive.

Court documents say he hit speeds over 100 miles per hour and ran several red lights.

Documents also reveal Hall struck two state troopers during the pursuit, injuring one of them.

He now faces a list of charges including attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and malicious shooting into an occupied dwelling.

“It most definitely could have been a tragedy and thank God it wasn’t,” Williams said.

Williams says she forgives Hall, but says he needs to be held responsible for his actions.

He’s expected back in court Wednesday morning for a motion hearing.

Currently he’s being held at the Norfolk City Jail without bond.
