HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton police say a man has been charged for stealing a woman’s bicycle, and resisting arrest.

Police say the alleged incident happened Monday morning on Stapleford Way, near the Willow Oaks neighborhood. A 31-year-old woman said someone took her bike and then rode away.

An officer in the area later found the suspect, 38-year-old Richard Frederick Adams of Bristol, Pennsylvania. Police say Adams resisted arrest, however, and fled to a driveway on Fox Hill Road.

The officer suffered a minor injury while trying regain control of Adams.

Adams again evaded the officer, escaping through a nearby backyard.

Police say Adams was finally arrested after a neighbor spotted him emerging from a home, and called 911. Adams has been charged with grand larceny and resisting arrest.
