NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Norfolk police say they’re investigating the death of a man after a shooting near JEB Little Creek-Fort Story. 

The call for the shooting in the 7900 block of Thompson Road came in at 9:45 p.m. on Friday. Police found the man at the scene suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died. 

Police have identified the victim as 20-year-old Jalen C. Barnhill.

Neighbors told 10 On Your Side, they heard about four or five gunshots go off.
One man said he heard the fatal shots and ran to his window. When he looked out, he says he saw two men running from a home and then hop into a red Dodge van before speeding off. 
Another neighbor told 10 On Your Side Barnhill was shot right in front of his home. They also said his girlfriend attempted to help him until medics arrived at the scene.
