WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) – The College of William & Mary has officially hired former University of Virginia and current Howard University coach Mike London to coach Tribe football.

The Hampton native will replace Jimmye Laycock, who had a 40-year career at the school. Laycock retired last week.

London also earned a national title in 2008 as head coach at the University of Richmond (his alma mater) and was the ACC Coach of the Year at the University of Virginia in 2011. He has spent the last two season as Howard University’s head coach.

“We’re delighted to welcome Coach London home to William & Mary,” W&M President Katherine Rowe said in an official news release. “He leads with integrity in every aspect of a football program. He embraces the distinctive rigor of William & Mary as well as our championship aspirations within those high standards.”
