HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) — Those who live near military installations in Hampton Roads occasionally find themselves asking “What’s that sound?” or “Did anyone else hear that boom?”
Joint Base Langley-Eustis says it will be conducting simulated machine gun fire in training areas on Friday, Feb. 5, which could make loud noises in communities in and around Fort Eustis.
The simulated machine gun fire will be done from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday.
Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story will also participate in an annual anti-terrorism force protection exercise Citadel Shield-Solid Curtain 2021 (CS/SC 21) from Feb. 1 through Feb. 12.
Local area residents in the vicinity of JEBLCFS may see increased military activity and possible traffic and pedestrian congestion associated with the exercise.
In addition, residents may hear increased use of the installation’s emergency announcing system associated with the exercise.
The training isn’t expected to impact installation entry points or customer service areas.
