NAGS HEAD, N.C. (WAVY)  — A 19-year-old pedestrian died Thursday night after being struck by a vehicle in Nags Head.

According to witnesses, Jovan Jordany Yurnet Matos, of Nags Head, was in the southbound lane of South Croatan Highway, near Soundside Road, when he was struck. 

Nags Head police received the call at 5:18 p.m.  When officers arrived on the scene, Matos was unresponsive and a damaged bike believed to be Matos’ was found on the west side of the highway.

Matos was transported to The Outer Banks Hospital, where we was pronounced dead.

The driver of the vehicle, a 52-year-old woman from Kill Devil Hills, was also transported to Outer Banks Hospital and later released.

There is no immediate indication that drugs or alcohol were involved, police say.
