KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WDAF) — Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is owning up to his actions in a sideline moment with Andy Reid during Super Bowl LVIII.
Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce addressed the moment in this week’s episode of their “New Heights” podcast.
“People are all over this and I mean, I get it,” Travis said.
“You crossed a line, I think we can both agree on that,” Jason told his brother.
Travis added that he was “fired up” when he bumped into Reid, but suggested he immediately regretted his actions.
“I can’t get that fired up to the point where I’m bumping coach, and it’s getting him off balance and stuff,” Travis said. “When he stumbled I was like, ‘Oh s—’ in my head.”
“Let’s be honest, the yelling in his face, too, is over the top,” Jason added. “I think there are better ways to handle this, retrospectively.”
The Chiefs were on pace to take the lead over the San Francisco 49ers in the red zone until a fumble from running back Isiah Pacheco caused a turnover and stopped the Chiefs’ momentum.
Cameras then caught Kelce appearing to shove his head coach while yelling in his face.
Travis expressed his love for Reid and explained where the moment came from, at least in his mind.
“I just love playing for him. Unfortunately, sometimes my passion comes out where it looks like negativity, but I’m grateful that he knows it’s all my because I wanna win this thing,” Travis said.
In an interview after the game, Reid described his team as passionate players.
“Even if they chest bump me to the other side of the 50, I appreciate it. I just love that. [Travis Kelce] wants to play and wants to be in there playing. And he knows I love that. So he makes me feel young.” Reid told reporters.
“He caught me off balance. I wasn’t watching,” Reid admitted.
As for what Travis was saying, Reid claimed it was, “Just put me in, put me in. I’ll score!”
Travis was only targeted once in the first half with one catch. He ended the game leading the team with nine catches and 93 yards.
He and Reid — the man he affectionately calls ‘Big Red’ — are now celebrating their third Super Bowl win in five seasons.
