DALLAS, TX (WCMH) — A mother in Dallas reportedly took matters into her own hands when a carjacker tried to take off in her SUV with her two children in the backseat.
The woman had gone into a gas station to pay late Wednesday night when the man jumped behind the wheel, the CBS station in Dallas-Fort Worth reported.
The children in the vehicle were ages 2 and 4, the station reported.
According to Dallas police, the woman quickly ran back to her vehicle and and managed to get back into the SUV as the suspect took off. She asked him to pull over, but he refused. Police say the woman then grabbed a gun from the glove box and shot him one time in the head.
The suspect, identified by the Dallas NBC station as Ricky Wright, 36, then crashed into a telephone pole. The woman and her two kids were not hurt.
Dallas police say the suspect was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Officers say he will likely face two charges of kidnapping and robbery.
“I wish I would’ve killed you, if I didn’t already,” the woman told CBS DFW.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
