(WFLA/CNN) – Astronomers have made an incredible discovery outside of the Milky Way galaxy.
A NASA telescope spotted a neutron star located some 200,000 light years from earth. The lonely star is the first of its kind seen outside of the Milky Way, CNN reports.
The celestial object is about the size of a city and is incredibly dense, with a mass about 1.4 times that of the sun, according to Space.com. The star is formed from the decayed shells of other stars after they collapse and undergo a supernova explosion.
In this case, scientists suspect the explosion happened around 2,000 years ago.
