(NEXSTAR) – House Speaker Mike Johnson is set to host an event Wednesday recognizing several women who contributed to the space race.

Administrator Bill Nelson will represent NASA at the ceremony, which will honor several NASA mathematicians who helped land the first astronauts on the moon in 1969 under the agency’s Apollo Program.

The women are often referred to as the “Hidden Figures” of the space race, and were the subject of both a book and film of the same name.

The push to honor them was first introduced by Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson on Feb. 27, 2019, with the Hidden Figures Congressional Gold Medal Act, which was signed into law later that year.

The Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony will take place inside Emancipation Hall at the U.S. Capitol in Washington.
